Just in case you’re wondering what a professional portfolio is, let’s make it easy for you a portfolio is a compilation of materials that exemplifies your Beliefs, Skills, Qualifications, Education, Training and Experiences.

So what makes your portfolio stand out or gives it that competitive edge?

Quality work samples – Ever heard of quality over quantity? Well this might just be the place it applies. Give priority to your strongest pieces of work. You would rather have 5 of your best works but with content that automatically captures the attention of whoever sees it.

Go for variety-  Whether in website design, illustration or copy samples don’t showcase only one angle of your samples ‘The more the merrier’.

Showcase the process before the output- Show the process that got you to the final result. Creatives will appreciate a glimpse into your creative process.

Get a second opinion-  Nothing kills your credibility faster than a portfolio full of grammatical errors and misspellings. Not proofing your content is a glaring indication that your work habits are sloppy as well.

If you already have a website, then adding a Portfolio section is an obvious choice. Many Squarespace and WordPress themes are made purposely for portfolios. You can title it Portfolio or as some people prefer Work.
